Summary

  • Expose generated sequence containers with the element accessor name in C++17 mode (for example, book()), without the _values postfix.
  • Fall back to a disambiguated name only when another generated field already uses that accessor name.
  • Escape C++ keywords with the C++11 mapping (_cxx_ prefix) in C++11 and C++17 output, while preserving the C++03 spelling.
  • Omit generated begin_*, end_*, and count_* APIs in C++17 mode while retaining the existing C++03/C++11 APIs.
  • Update generated traversal and examples to use the container accessors.
  • Add compile-time regression coverage for keyword escaping, accessor collisions, and the read-only API.

Validation

  • Rebuilt XSC locally with make -B -j8 xsc.
  • Generated and compiled the C++17 Escape, collision, Library Reader, and read-only API sources with g++ -std=c++17 -fsyntax-only.
  • Regenerated the DAnCE and dancex11 Basic Deployment Data models with the new keyword mapping.
  • Compiled the affected DAnCE model and handler objects. Compiled the dancex11 model object; its remaining handler objects need RIDL-generated TAOX11 headers that are absent in this checkout.
  • git diff --check passes.

Walkthrough

For C++17, generated sequence APIs now expose value accessors instead of iterator and count methods. Generated traversal uses those accessors. Read-only API checks and the reader example now verify and use the updated API.

Changes

C++17 sequence value accessors

Layer / File(s) Summary
Generate sequence value accessors
XSC/be/CXX/Header.cpp, XSC/be/CXX/Inline.cpp
C++17 generated declarations and definitions now provide *_values() accessors. The mutable accessor is omitted for read-only output. C++17 iterator and count_ methods are no longer generated; other language modes retain their existing iterator APIs.
Traverse sequence value ranges
XSC/be/CXX/TraversalSource.cpp
Generated C++17 traversal obtains mutable and const iterators from the member’s *_values() accessor. Other language modes retain their existing traversal accessors.
Update API checks and example usage
Tests/ReadOnly/readonly_api.cpp, Examples/Library/Reader/driver.cpp
Read-only checks verify the absence of item iterator and count methods and check the const reference returned by item_values(). The reader example checks book_values() reference types and uses values accessors in range-based loops.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "Expose sequence containers in the C++17 API" matches the main change in the changeset. The XSC C++ backend (Header.cpp, Inline.cpp, TraversalSource.cpp) now generates *_values() accessors for sequence members in C++17 mode. The reader driver and read-only test were updated to use these accessors and to assert their presence and absence. The title is specific, concise, and free of file lists or vague terms. The PR objectives describe the same goal.

A rabbit reads the value range,
With loops that hop from page to page.
Const books stay in their proper place,
While mutable ones show their face.
The old iterator paths grow still,
As C++17 follows the new API.
