Add SQLite wallet storage on Linux, macOS, and Windows while preserving support for existing Berkeley DB (BDB) wallets. New wallets default to SQLite when enabled; existing BDB wallets are never migrated automatically. This changes wallet storage, not consensus or network behavior.
Changes
Introduce shared database, batch, and cursor interfaces for both backends, preserving transparent, HD, Spark, and BIP47 wallet records.
Add -walletdbformat=sqlite|bdb for new wallets and report the active format through getwalletinfo and the Qt debug window.
Add explicit BDB-to-SQLite migration with a retained BDB backup and record verification before replacing the wallet.
Support SQLite backup, encryption, recovery, and restart through existing wallet operations. SQLite backups use the backup API and never overwrite an existing destination.
Add SQLite 3.50.4 to depends. SQLite support can be disabled with ENABLE_SQLITE_WALLET=OFF or NO_SQLITE=1; BDB remains required for wallet builds.
Keep BDB handles open while database cursors are active, preventing background flushing from invalidating them.
Add database and functional coverage for both backends, migration, backup, encryption, and failure handling.
Migration
After a clean shutdown:
firod -wallet=wallet-bdb.dat -migratewalletdb
Migration retains the original BDB backup and reports its path. Use backupwallet for live SQLite backups rather than copying an active database file.
Platform Requirements
Windows SQLite lifecycle operations require local NTFS and Windows 10 version 1709 or later. Unsupported filesystem operations are rejected. Windows does not provide the same documented atomic-exchange and directory-synchronization guarantees as Linux and macOS.
See doc/sqlite-wallet.md for build options, backup, restoration, and platform details.

Added SQLite wallet support alongside Berkeley DB on Linux, macOS, and Windows. New wallets continue to use Berkeley DB unless SQLite is selected; existing wallets are not migrated automatically.
Added explicit migration from Berkeley DB to SQLite, retaining a backup of the original wallet.
Added wallet database format information to the debug window and wallet details.
Bug Fixes
Improved error reporting for wallet backups, encryption, and passphrase changes when database operations fail or have uncertain outcomes.
Improved backup and restore handling to preserve file permissions and wallet state. SQLite backups do not overwrite existing files.
Improved Spark address creation so database write failures do not add an invalid address.
Documentation
Expanded guidance for wallet backups, restoration, and database migration.
Tests
Added coverage for wallet formats, backups, migration, recovery, and Spark wallet persistence.
Walkthrough
This pull request adds optional SQLite wallet storage alongside Berkeley DB. It adds database abstractions, format selection, migration, platform-specific safeguards, backend-aware wallet operations, and validation coverage.

Summary
Build and platform support .gitattributes, CMakeLists.txt, depends/*, README.md, depends/README.md, doc/*, src/CMakeLists.txt
Build configuration and dependency selection enable SQLite wallet support on Linux, macOS, and Windows. Documentation covers format selection, migration, backup, and restoration.
Database contracts and safeguards src/wallet/database.*, src/wallet/db.h, src/wallet/sqlite.h, src/wallet/macos_wallet_permissions.h, src/wallet/win32_file_lifecycle.h
Backend-neutral database contracts and lifecycle interfaces are added. Database path checks, migration-directory validation, and platform-specific permission and file handling are added.
Wallet ownership and migration src/wallet/wallet.*, src/wallet/walletdb.*, src/wallet/rpcdump.cpp, src/wallet/rpcwallet.cpp
Wallets own database instances and route persistence through them. Startup selects database formats, and explicit migration copies and validates BDB records before publishing SQLite and retaining a BDB backup.
Spark, encryption, backup, and UI src/spark/*, src/qt/*, src/wallet/rpcwallet.cpp
Spark operations use wallet-owned databases. Encryption, passphrase changes, backups, format reporting, and Spark address generation handle backend-specific outcomes.

The new SQLite wallet storage has a few bounded open issues. These are the macOS backup overwrite prompt, the handling of reserved wallet filename suffixes, and a leftover test artifact. The Windows SQLite test helpers also break when the test data path contains non-ASCII characters. None of these is expected to cause data loss, but they should be addressed or knowingly accepted before merge.

Explanation
The description follows the template's required "PR intention" section. It states what the PR adds (SQLite wallet storage on Linux, macOS, and Windows, BDB preserved, new wallets default to SQLite when enabled, no automatic migration) and what it does not change (consensus and network). It also includes a Changes list, a Migration section, and Platform Requirements. The template's optional "Code changes brief" section is not present, but the description covers the architectural changes in its Changes list. The description is mostly complete and passes.

Handle failed BDB rewrite before returning success.
This added call is inside the Berkeley DB branch, not the SQLite branch. BerkeleyDatabase::Rewrite() can return false, but this branch ignores the result and returns true. The wallet can retain plaintext private-key remnants in BDB slack space while encryption reports success.
Suggested fix
- GetDatabase().Rewrite();+ if (!GetDatabase().Rewrite()) {+ StartShutdown();+ return false;+ }
The later encryption path already checks its rewrite result. This fix applies to the first, BDB-specific path.

Remove the SQLite test wallet before restoring directory permissions.

GetKeyPoolSize() asserts that cs_wallet is held. The SQLite keypool
tests called it unlocked, so builds with DEBUG_LOCKORDER aborted the
test process on Linux and macOS.
The Windows branch of the backup publication collision test reopens the
database before comparing directory entries. An exclusive SQLite
connection keeps its rollback journal until it closes, and the read
after the reopen does not recreate it, so the journal must not be
expected in the listing on Windows.
