Every new task form now starts with the default assignee: you, when Settings → People → Assign new tasks to me is on, otherwise nobody.

The only one that didn't was Add task on Tasks while it was filtered by Assignee. It filled in the filtered person (Mine → you, a person → them, Unassigned → nobody). Now it uses the default, like the + menu, n, ⌘K, a project's Add task, a topic's Make a task, /task, Make task and action items.

Changes

  • src/pages/TasksPage.tsx: Add task no longer passes the filter.
  • TaskPanel.tsx / TaskPanelProvider.tsx: the option to preset an assignee is gone, since nothing passes one now. The panel always starts from defaultAssignee().
  • shared/select.ts: assigneeFor() and its unit test are removed, since nothing calls it now.
  • e2e/tasks-view.spec.ts: "Add task on Mine" now expects the default (Unassigned with the setting off). It no longer checks that the task shows in the table, because an unassigned task isn't under Mine.
  • docs/SPEC.md and CHANGELOG.md (Unreleased → Changed) are updated.

Screenshots

None: nothing looks different. The New task panel is unchanged; only the assignee it starts with on a filtered Tasks view is different.

Testing

  • biome ci, the build and the unit tests (1,110) pass.
  • The tasks-view and assign-to-me e2e specs pass locally, except tasks-view "group by assignee, Shift-select two, move them, undo". That test fails on main too and is a known flaky spec. The full suite runs in CI.

Every new task form now starts with the default assignee (you, with
Settings → People → Assign new tasks to me on; else nobody). Tasks'
Add task used to start with the person the view was filtered to. The
panel's assignee preset and assigneeFor() go, as nothing uses them.
