[resources] Add sort by date/relevance dropdown to Resources page - #8073
Adds a "Sort by" dropdown to the Cloud Native Resources page (/resources) with three options:
Latest (default) — sorts resources by newest date first
Oldest — sorts resources by oldest date first
Relevance — keeps the existing search relevance ranking from useDataList. It is selected by default while a search query is active, and is disabled when there is no search query
Resources were already ordered by date DESC (see the query in DataWrapper.js), so this PR mainly adds the sort control. While a search query is active, Relevance is the default so the existing ranked results are preserved instead of being reordered by date.
The dropdown is placed next to the existing search bar, following the visual/interaction pattern used by the existing Meshery Designs sort dropdown for consistency across sibling properties. It stays visible at all screen sizes. Below 600px it collapses to an icon, and it includes an aria-label="Sort by" for accessibility.
What this fixes
The date and fields.dateForSort fields are now exposed in the GraphQL query in DataWrapper.js, which makes client-side date sorting possible.
Sorting reuses the existing fields.dateForSort, and resources with a missing or invalid date are always listed last for both Latest and Oldest.
Pagination now resets to page 1 whenever the sort option changes.
The sort option resets whenever the search query changes, so Relevance is the default for each new search.
Dropdown styling correctly follows the site's light/dark theme.
Added a custom dropdown arrow icon
The sort control and search bar sit side by side at the same height, aligned to the right edge of the results grid.
The sort control is responsive: visible on tablet and mobile widths, and shown as an icon below 600px.
Tests
The sort and pagination logic lives in src/utils/resource-sort.js, with unit tests in src/utils/resource-sort.test.js.
The tests cover Latest and Oldest ordering, missing or invalid dates sorting last, Relevance keeping the incoming order, no mutation of the input, and pagination slices.
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
The Resources grid now offers latest, oldest, and relevance sorting. It retrieves resource date fields, sorts before pagination, and resets the page when the sort selection changes.

Summary
Resource date data src/sections/Resources/Resources-grid/DataWrapper.js
The resource query now requests each resource’s frontmatter date and dateForSort field.
Sorting and pagination utilities src/utils/resource-sort.js, src/utils/resource-sort.test.js, package.json
New utilities sort resources by date, preserve their order for relevance, and paginate results. Tests cover sorting and pagination, and test:unit now runs them.
ResourceGrid selects a default sort based on the query, displays latest, oldest, and relevance options, and applies sorting before pagination. Changing the selection resets the page to 1. The styles include responsive search and sort controls.

Explanation
The title "[resources] Add sort by date/relevance dropdown to Resources page" matches the main change. The PR adds a Sort by dropdown (Latest, Oldest, Relevance) to the Resources grid, backed by new sorting and pagination utilities in src/utils/resource-sort.js. The title names the feature and its location, so a teammate scanning history can identify the primary change. It is 65 characters, within a reasonable length for a title.

Explanation
The supplied change summary limits the changes to the Resources grid, its data query and styles, the resource sorting utility and tests, and the unit-test script. These changes support #8053. No unrelated change is demonstrated.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
For #8053, ResourceGrid provides Latest, Oldest, and Relevance options. It sorts filtered resources with fields.dateForSort, keeps Relevance disabled without a query, resets pagination on selection changes, and the styles keep the control available on mobile. The utility tests cover date ordering, invalid dates, relevance order, immutability, and pagination. However, choice is retained for the last query. If a user selects Oldest for query A, changes to query B, and then returns to query A, the old choice is restored instead of resetting to the default Relevance option after the query changed.
Resolution
Clear the selected sort state whenever the search query changes, or track only the current query without restoring a prior query selection. Add a regression test for changing from query A to B and back to query A.

@Katotodan@Maanvi212006@Sbragul26 I have implemented the sort dropdown feature in our /resources page with Latest, Oldest, and Relevance options. Could you please review this whenever possible? Do let me know if any changes are required. Thank you!

The sort control is currently hidden at max-width: 990px, which makes the new sorting functionality unavailable on mobile/tablet widths. The linked issue explicitly requires the UI to be responsive on both mobile and desktop. Could you keep the sort control visible below 990px and stack/wrap it with the search box instead of hiding it?
Also, the relevance branch currently returns nodes unchanged when a search query is active. Could you confirm that the existing searchData flow already returns the filtered results in relevance order? If it only filters while preserving the default date order, then this option isn't actually implementing the issue's requested relevance sorting.

The sort/filter/pagination flow looks good. A couple of things I'd still check:
The date parsing with new Date(frontmatter.date) may be unreliable for values like 2026-06-22 10:30:05 -0530. Could we use the existing normalised date? ForSort or make the parsing/NaN handling safer?
Since search already returns ranked results, the new latest default now reorders search results by date. Could we keep Relevance as the default when a search query is active to preserve the existing behavior?
Also, the PR description could clarify that resources were already sorted by date DESC and this change mainly adds the sort control.
Hi @PARTH-TUSSLE On mobile visibility: hiding the sort control on small screens was an explicit instruction from @Katotodan earlier in this issue discussion on slack. Since your review is asking for the opposite (visible + wrapped/stacked on mobile, per the linked issue's requirement). @Katotodan could you confirm which direction you'd like — happy to implement either.
On relevance sorting: confirmed — the existing searchData flow (js-search with TF-IDF indexing) does return results genuinely ranked by term-relevance, not just filtered while preserving date order. I verified this directly by comparing Latest vs Relevance with an active search term, and the resulting order differed as expected. So this option is working as the issue requested.

Dates: added a safe toTimestamp helper that normalizes YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm:ss ±hhmm to ISO and falls back to 0 instead of NaN. I couldn't find a forSort field in the repo. If you meant a specific one, please point me to it.
Search default: Relevance is now the default while a search is active, so ranked results aren't reordered by date.
Description: updated to note that date DESC was already the existing order.

Hi @akshatsinghai6682-sketch, thanks for addressing the previous feedback. I re-checked the latest implementation and the main sorting flow looks good. A few points still need attention:
Invalid dates:toTimestamp() returns 0 for invalid/missing dates, which makes them appear first when sorting by Oldest. Please keep invalid dates at the end for both Latest and Oldest.
Sort state when search changes:sortOption persists across search changes. For example, selecting Oldest and then starting a search keeps Oldest instead of restoring the intended Relevance default. Please reset/derive the sort state appropriately when searchQuery changes.
Relevance without a search: When there is no search query, Relevance is still selectable but behaves like Latest. Please either disable this option when there is no query or make the displayed selection consistently reflect the actual sorting behavior.
Date sorting consistency: The repository already has the dateForSort field used for date ordering. Please consider reusing it instead of maintaining another date-normalization/parsing implementation in toTimestamp().
Unrelated formatting changes: Please revert the formatting-only changes in the other files and keep this PR focused on the Resources sorting feature. This will make the actual functional changes easier to review and reduce unnecessary merge conflicts.
The pagination reset, frontmatter.date query, accessibility label, and relevance pass-through look addressed.
Once these points are cleaned up, please request another review.

Hey @akshatsinghai6682-sketch , I could see a regression in the UI
It is small but yeah I could notice it.
Also, the sort control is still hidden below 990px, while the issue lists mobile responsiveness as an acceptance criterion. Since you mentioned this was an explicit maintainer instruction, could you get confirmation on whether the control should remain hidden on mobile or be made responsive?
Once that is confirmed, I don't see any other blocking issues from my side
@PARTH-TUSSLE@Katotodan@hiyach28 in this pr is everything requested addressed? are we good to go with this do let me know if any changes are required. Thank You!

@akshatsinghai6682-sketch , Looks good overall! Could you please reset the sort option when the search query changes, so Relevance is selected by default for a new search? Also, please add a few tests for sorting and pagination, and remove any unrelated formatting changes to keep the diff focused.

Hi @PARTH-TUSSLE, thanks for the review. I've pushed the changes:
The sort now resets when the search query changes, so Relevance is the default for a new search.
Added unit tests for sorting and pagination in src/utils/resource-sort.test.js (run with npm run test:unit).
Removed the unrelated formatting changes from resourceGrid.style.js.
Please take another look when you get a chance. Also updated the pr description accordingly ThankYou!
