feat(examples): translate one product string with Hy-MT2 1.8B - #862
This adds examples/translation, a runnable example for the translation task page. It makes one native generate call to tencent/Hy-MT2-1.8B that translates an Android system message (review_notification_settings_text, AOSP android-15.0.0_r1, Apache-2.0) into Japanese. That is the same request the page shows:
POST https://api.superlinked.com/v1/generate/tencent__Hy-MT2-1.8B
{"prompt": "<|hy_begin▁of▁sentence|><|hy_User|>Translate the following text into Japanese. Note that you should only output the translated result without any additional explanation: <text><|hy_Assistant|>",
"max_new_tokens": 256, "temperature": 0}
run.py builds Hy-MT2's raw prompt and sends it with SIEClient.generate. It prints the text, the finish reason, the token counts, and whether the output equals the one recorded through SIE Serverless on 2026-10-25.
--show prints the request without sending it.
--text and --into translate other text.
max_new_tokens is sized from the input the way the page does: 5 tokens per 3 characters plus 16, rounded up to 64, 128, 256, 512 or 1024, and never above the model's 1024. The recorded string gets 256.
A translation that stops at its cap (finish reason length) is cut off. The run prints it, warns on stderr and exits 1.
The key is read from SIE_API_KEY and is never printed. Without SIE_BASE_URL, the SDK sends the call to SIE Serverless.
A failure prints only the error type and the HTTP status.
recorded.json holds the source string, the recorded request, and the response fields the example prints.
tests/test_run.py runs the real SDK against an HTTPX MockTransport, so it needs no key or model. It checks:
exactly one POST to /v1/generate/tencent__Hy-MT2-1.8B, whose parsed JSON equals the recorded body. It compares parsed JSON because the SDK escapes non-ASCII characters;
the bearer header;
that --show sends nothing;
that no error detail is printed;
that the SDK does not resend after a 504;
the output cap at every length from 1 to 1,200 characters, against the page's limits, and that a long --text asks for 1024;
that a length finish exits 1 with a warning.
The README links the page, its SOURCES.md and the public WMT24++ study behind the page's figures. It also shows how to run the example on a local GPU sie-server (latest-cuda12-sglang).
Adds a row to the examples/README.md gallery.
This is example-only: it changes no package, and the root lock is unchanged. The example pins sie-sdk==0.10.1 from PyPI in its own uv.lock.
Validation
From examples/translation:
$ uv lock --checkResolved 24 packages in 9ms
$ uv run --frozen ruff format --check .2 files already formatted
$ uv run --frozen ruff check .All checks passed!
$ uv run --frozen python -m unittest discover -s tests -vRan 14 tests in 0.008sOK
Live, one run against https://api.superlinked.com on 2026-10-28 (SIE_API_KEY=... uv run --frozen python run.py). It exited 0 after about three minutes, while capacity started:
A second live run on 2026-10-28 used an 880-character English paragraph with --into Japanese. It asked for 1024 output tokens and finished with stop after 201 input and 262 output tokens, so the old fixed cap of 256 would have cut it off.
The output is not guaranteed to match on every run. SIE's output is not deterministic even at temperature 0, and the README says so.
Added an example that translates an Android notification-permission message into Japanese with Hy-MT2. Preview a request, run a translation, and compare the result with the recorded output.
Documentation
Added the example to the gallery, with setup and usage guidance covering custom text, deployment options, token limits, and how incomplete responses and request errors are reported.
Tests
Added offline checks for request previews, translation results, configuration, and error handling.
Add examples/translation: one native generate call to
tencent/Hy-MT2-1.8B that translates an Android system message into
Japanese, the call behind https://superlinked.com/translation.
run.py builds Hy-MT2's raw prompt, sends it with SIEClient.generate
(temperature 0, 256 output tokens) and prints the text, finish reason,
token counts and whether the output equals the one recorded through SIE
Serverless on 2026-10-25. --show prints the request without sending it.
The key comes from SIE_API_KEY and is never printed; failures print only
the error type and HTTP status.
The offline tests run the real SDK against an HTTPX MockTransport and
need no key. The README links the page, its SOURCES.md and the public
WMT24++ study on Hugging Face, and adds a gallery row.

`--text` always asked for 256 output tokens, so a longer paragraph came
back cut off with finish reason `length` and the run still exited 0.
run.py now sizes max_new_tokens the way superlinked.com/translation does:
5 tokens per 3 characters plus 16, rounded up to 64, 128, 256, 512 or
1024, and never above the model's 1024. It exits 1 when a translation is
cut off. The recorded string still gets 256, so its request is unchanged.
The README now says only that the page's figures come from the study,
which holds whether or not the page shows the quality comparison yet.

…uest limit
The client set one 150 s limit for connecting and reading. Hy-MT2's model
profile allows a request up to 600 s, and the SDK never retries a read
timeout, so a long translation could fail on the client while the server
was still answering. Set the read timeout to 600 s and keep the SDK's
default connect timeout.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Define prompt and match run.py's timeout settings.
The snippet raises NameError before sending a request because prompt is undefined. It also omits the read_timeout_s=600 and provision_timeout_s=300 settings used by run.py, so it is not equivalent to the advertised implementation.

The snippet used `prompt` without defining it and left out the timeouts
run.py sets. It now builds the same prompt run.py sends for the recorded
case and passes read_timeout_s=600 and provision_timeout_s=300.

@coderabbitai On the outside-diff README comment: fixed in 00813da. The snippet now defines prompt (the same string run.py builds for the recorded case, Hy-MT2 turn markers included — the suggested diff had dropped them) and passes read_timeout_s=600 and provision_timeout_s=300, as run.py does.

@ShaiShmuel Confirmed in examples/translation/README.md: the snippet defines prompt, preserves the Hy-MT2 turn markers, and matches run.py with read_timeout_s=600 and provision_timeout_s=300. This addresses the README comment. My suggested diff should not have dropped the turn markers.

A client-level read timeout is capped by the call's remaining capacity-wait
budget, so with provision_timeout_s=300 the client's 600 s setting never
applied. The generate call now passes read_timeout_s=600 next to
provision_timeout_s=300, in run.py and in the README snippet, and a test
checks the timeout the request is sent with.
