XSC improvements - #84
Conversation
WalkthroughThe changes add read-only C++ generation and update generated declarations, parsing, traversal, and serialization. They also remove XML_Helper and XSCRT runtime components, revise the Recursive example, add generated-code tests, and update version metadata, formatting, and the Linux workflow. Pin the ACE baseline required by CDR-generated code.
When CDR generation is enabled, XSC/be/CXX/Header.cpp emits ace/XML_Utils/XMLSchema/CDR_Types.hpp, and the XSC-local XSCRT/XMLSchema/CDR_Types.hpp is removed. CI checks out DOCGroup/ACE_TAO without a revision and does not show a CDR-generation option. A build can therefore pass with an ACE revision that lacks the new header while downstream CDR-generated code fails to compile. Use an ACE revision that contains this header and add CDR-enabled validation.

Reject read-only output for pre-C++17 modes.
ParserSource.cpp emits return type (e); for read-only readers. Header.cpp makes the copy constructor private in C++03 and deletes copy and move construction in C++11. Pre-C++17 return-value elision does not remove the constructor accessibility requirement, so generated readers can fail to compile.
The ReadOnly test project enables --cxx-cpp03 with --cxx-read-only, so it exercises this unsupported combination. Reject --cxx-read-only with --cxx-cpp03 and --cxx-cpp11, or make the generated read-only type returnable in those modes. In C++03, IDREF registration also occurs while constructing type (e), after the generated reader calls resolve_idref(), so those references can remain unresolved.

complex types and include their required members before determining that a
derived type needs no constructor arguments; preserve the existing handling of
members declared directly on the derived type.
Review comments at @XSC/be/CXX/Header.cpp:
- Line 39: Update the CDR-write generation for inherited schema types to cast to
the semantic base type name instead of the generated Base alias, matching the
constructor and assignment generators.

Review comments at @XSC/be/CXX/Header.cpp:
- Around line 666-667: Update the generated constructor declarations in
Header.cpp so read-only sequence values remain move-constructible for
std::vector insertion; preserve the deleted copy constructor and read-only
member APIs, or use storage that does not require moving values.

Summary\n- Remove the unused XML_Helper template and its build entry.\n- Remove the repository-local XSCRT C++ runtime, which is no longer built by the XSC workspace; generated C++ uses ACE XML_Utils.\n- Retain NarrowTypes.idl for the IDL backend and retain the local CDR_Types.hpp until a new ACE release provides the shared header.\n- Modernize generated C++17 code, including eligible defaulted copy operations, range-based CDR sequence writers, and clearer generated parser/writer errors.\n- Fix traversal generation for escaped schema names, and preserve both mutable and read-only DanceX11 generated APIs.\n\nThe DanceX11 schemas are compiled in both modes as part of the test build. A runtime test verifies that copy-assigning an unset optional field clears the destination value. The full Tests MPC build and this runtime check pass locally.\n\nThe ACE-side CDR header is proposed separately in DOCGroup/ACE_TAO#2610.\n\n
